What Is ENF Board? The Safest Board Grade for Families (Part 2 of 3)
By the Sunpina Malaysia product team · Last updated 4 October 2026 · 1 min read · Part 2 of 3
Quick answer
ENF board for families means the lowest emission grade: ≤0.025 mg/m³, half the E0 board limit. Households with babies, mums-to-be, grandparents and pets choose it for shut, air-conditioned rooms, where release can build up.
3D render: a child’s room with floor-level storage.
Why does the board grade matter more with children at home?
Children breathe more air for their body weight. Babies, mums-to-be and grandparents are generally treated as more sensitive groups for indoor air quality.

Why choose ENF board over E0 board in a Malaysian home?
Warm, humid airraises release
Shut aircond roomcan hold it in
Emission can build uphighest in first months after installation
A lower grade lowers what cabinets release; it does not prevent or treat any condition. For pregnancy, asthma, or a child’s or pet’s health, ask your doctor, paediatrician or vet.
FAQs
Is ENF board good for a baby’s room?
It is the lowest-emission grade, but it does not make a room risk-free. For your baby’s health, ask your paediatrician.
Does the grade matter with pets?
Yes. Pets live beside low cabinets. For your pet’s health, ask your vet.

Quick answer
ENF is a grade, not a material: particleboard, MDF or plywood that reaches the strictest limit, ≤0.025 mg/m³, half the E0 board limit (≤0.050). Most of the difference is in the glue.
Example board, not a Sunpina sample: surface, core, edge (numbered below).

Ask for ENF when your home includes a baby, a mum-to-be, a grandparent or a pet. For questions about anyone’s health, ask your doctor, paediatrician or vet.
Is ENF the same as zero formaldehyde?
No wood-based board is literally zero formaldehyde. In Malaysia, “zero formaldehyde” or 零甲醇 means ENF-class emission.

What Is E0 Board? Is It Safe for Your Family? (Part 3 of 3)
By the Sunpina Malaysia product team · Last updated 28 September 2026 · 2 min read · Part 3 of 3
Quick answer
ENF board is the strictest class in China’s GB/T 39600-2021, capped at 0.025 mg/m³: half the E0 board limit and about five times stricter than E1. It is the grade to consider when cabinets will line a nursery, a kids’ room, a grandparent’s bedroom or a home with pets.
“Zero formaldehyde” in the market means ENF-class emission; no wood-based board is literally zero.
Ask for the grade in writing, panel by panel, with the test report.
How much stricter is ENF board than E0 board?
On the same chamber test, E1 allows up to 0.124 mg/m³, E0 up to 0.050 mg/m³ and ENF up to 0.025 mg/m³. ENF grade halves the E0 ceiling, so E0 vs ENF is a genuine like-for-like step.
One honest note: ENF is not literally zero. Wood itself contains trace natural formaldehyde, so what is sold as “zero formaldehyde board” in Malaysia means ENF-class emission or no added urea-formaldehyde resin. ENF is the strictest grade, not an absence.
When should a family upgrade to ENF grade?
Start with the rooms where someone sensitive spends long hours. Common reasons to move up a grade:
A baby is on the way, or the cabinets are for a nursery.
Children will sleep, study and play beside low cabinets.
Grandparents live in, or someone has asthma or allergies.
Pets spend their day near the floor, and some chew edges.
“Zero chemical smell on day one — our cucus sleep next to the wardrobe with no worries.”
For health questions about pregnancy, asthma, a child or a pet, speak to your doctor, paediatrician or vet.
How Sunpina approaches this
Every Sunpina built-in cabinet, from kitchens and wardrobes to TV cabinets and wall panels, is built in ENF board. E0 board is our point of comparison, not a material we use. Sunpina’s ENF Eco Board 2.0 pairs an ENF core (≤0.025 mg/m³) with a silver-ion antibacterial surface, eco adhesive and PUR edge banding that seals board edges against humidity. Independent lab test reports for formaldehyde are available on request, and the full grade comparison is in our zero formaldehyde board guide.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know my cabinets are really ENF grade?
Ask for the grade in writing for every panel, including carcass, doors, shelves and back panels, stated against GB/T 39600-2021 in mg/m³. Then ask to see the test report behind it.
Which rooms should a family think about first?
Bedrooms and nurseries, where people sleep for hours with the doors shut and the aircond on, since formaldehyde builds up in closed, air-conditioned rooms. Low cabinets that children and pets spend time beside come next.

What Is E0 Board? Is It Safe for Your Family? (Part 2 of 3)
By the Sunpina Malaysia product team · Last updated 28 September 2026 · 2 min read · Part 2 of 3
Quick answer
E0 board is a genuine low-emission grade, capped at 0.050 mg/m³ under China’s GB/T 39600-2021, while ENF board keeps emission at the lowest grade, ≤0.025 mg/m³, half of E0. For rooms where babies, pregnant mums, grandparents, anyone with asthma or pets spend long hours, the lower grade keeps exposure lowest.
E0 allows less than half the E1 limit of 0.124 mg/m³, the standard grade common in Malaysia.
Formaldehyde is an irritant, and IARC classifies it as Group 1 (carcinogenic to humans).
Who at home is most sensitive to formaldehyde?
At elevated levels, formaldehyde can irritate the eyes, nose and throat and can aggravate asthma symptoms. Some family members are generally treated as more sensitive for indoor air quality:
Babies and children, who breathe more air relative to their body weight than adults and spend much of the day near floor level, close to low cabinets.
Pregnant mums, grandparents, and anyone with asthma or allergies.
Pets, which live close to the floor in the rooms where cabinets are. Some chew edges.
For medical questions about pregnancy, asthma, or your child’s or pet’s health, speak to your doctor, paediatrician or vet.
Why does a Malaysian home make the grade matter more?
Formaldehyde release rises with temperature and humidity, and Malaysia has plenty of both. It is highest in the first months after installation, exactly when a family moves in. A condo bedroom shut overnight with the aircond on, or a wardrobe with its doors closed, lets it build up.
A room of built-in cabinets also holds far more board than one bookshelf, so the grade of that board carries real weight.
Low cabinets sit right where toddlers and pets play, so the board grade matters most here.
So is E0 board safe enough for a family home?
E0 is a real step down from E1 and a recognised low-emission limit, but it is not the lowest grade available. ENF board keeps formaldehyde emission at the lowest grade (≤0.025 mg/m³), half of E0 board.
Where cabinets sit beside a cot, a child’s bed or a grandparent’s bed, choosing the lower grade is a simple way to lower exposure. See how the grades compare in our zero formaldehyde board guide.
Frequently asked questions
Does an E0 grade cabinet still release formaldehyde?
Yes, within its limit of 0.050 mg/m³ on the GB/T 39600-2021 chamber test. Every wood-based board releases some, which is why the grade is worth asking about.
Should I choose E0 grade if I’m pregnant or have a newborn?
E0 is a low-emission grade, but pregnant women and babies are generally treated as more sensitive groups for indoor air. Families wanting the lowest emission choose ENF grade, capped at 0.025 mg/m³. For medical questions, speak to your doctor or paediatrician.

What Is E0 Board? Is It Safe for Your Family? (Part 1 of 3)
By the Sunpina Malaysia product team · Last updated 28 September 2026 · 2 min read · Part 1 of 3
Quick answer
E0 board is a panel whose formaldehyde emission tests at or below 0.050 mg/m³ under China’s GB/T 39600-2021; ENF board, the strictest class, is capped at 0.025 mg/m³. “E0” describes how much formaldehyde a board may release, not what it is made of.
Same 1 m³ chamber test for all three grades: E1 ≤0.124, E0 ≤0.050, ENF ≤0.025 mg/m³.
An “E0 ≤0.5 mg/L” figure comes from an older desiccator test and cannot be compared with mg/m³.
E0 means low emission, not zero formaldehyde.
The three grades on the same chamber test: E1 ≤0.124, E0 board ≤0.050 and ENF board ≤0.025 mg/m³ (级 means “grade”).
What does “E0” mean when your contractor says it?
Many parents first hear the term in passing from a contractor, or see it printed on a quotation beside a price. The “E” stands for emission: the formaldehyde a board releases into the room. The lower the class, the less it may release.
So E0 is a test result, not a material. Particleboard, MDF and plywood can all qualify, and two cabinets with the same finish can sit in different grades yet look identical. The only proof of E0 is a lab result against a named standard. That matters at home because formaldehyde is an irritant, and built-in cabinets line the rooms where your family sleeps.
What number makes it an E0 board?
China’s GB/T 39600-2021, in force since 1 October 2021, grades wood-based panels by the formaldehyde they release in a 1 m³ climate chamber. E0 means no more than 0.050 mg/m³. One class stricter, ENF board is capped at half that.

E0

Why do some quotations say “E0 ≤0.5 mg/L”?
That figure comes from GB 18580-2001, an older Chinese standard that used a desiccator test. It has been superseded, yet many Malaysian suppliers still quote it. Because mg/L and mg/m³ come from different tests, the two numbers cannot be compared directly.
Europe’s EN standards have no official E0 class either, so there it is only a market label. If a quotation says “E0” with no unit or standard, ask for both in writing. Our zero formaldehyde board guide lays out the full grade ladder.
Frequently asked questions
Does E0 board mean zero formaldehyde?
No. E0 is a low-emission grade with a ceiling of 0.050 mg/m³. No wood-based board is literally zero, because wood itself contains trace natural formaldehyde.
Which standard should an E0 figure refer to?
The current one is China’s GB/T 39600-2021, measured in a 1 m³ climate chamber, where E0 is 0.050 mg/m³ or less. A figure in mg/L comes from the superseded GB 18580-2001 desiccator test.
